European Strategy for Generational Renewal in Agriculture | CAP4Youth Information Shot #2

The aging of the rural population is a very important problem for Europe’s primary sector.

  • The average age of a farmer in the EU is 57.
  • The population of young people aged 15-24 in rural areas fell from 3.6 million in 2013 to 1.9 million in 2019.

The solution comes in the form of the ‘Strategy for Generational Renewal of Farming in Agriculture‘, which aims to double the number of young farmers under 40 from 12% in 2025 to 24% in 2040.
