Emeritus Professor of the Agricultural University of Athens.

Former General Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

  • He was born in Chania, Crete where he completed his secondary education studies.
  • He holds a Bachelor from the (former) Highest Agricultural School of Athens.
  • He attended the Master's Department of (former) Highest School of Business Studies (ASOEE) in Business Management.
  • He completed his PhD dissertation at the Agricultural University of Athens.
  • He served as a Professor of Agriculture of the Agricultural University of Athens, focusing on field crops.

He served as

  • Special advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and the Prime Minister on topics related to agricultural policy.
  • General Secretary of Agricultural Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
  • He delivered courses on «Introduction to Agriculture» and «General and Special Agriculture» for students of the 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th semester of the Agricultural University of Athens as well as to MSc students for four decades.

 

  • He has a high number of research publications in Greek and international scientific journals regarding the field crops, the restructuring of crops, the Common Agricultural Policy, etc.
  • He has written articles in newspapers and magazines on topics related to his scientific subject.
  • Author of university books on arable crops.
  • Visiting Professor at the «Municipal University» of Agia Paraskevi.
  • He participated in various Councils of EU Ministers of Agriculture - Fisheries.
  • He participated in the negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy reform for the Mediterranean products (olive oil – cotton – tobacco), sugar and sugar beets, fruits and vegetables, grape and wine sector and the banana sector.
  • He is the national representative of Greece in CIHEAM – the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies.
  • He is married to Angeliki Koutrou, Agronomist, and they have one daughter, Elpida, who is a psychologist.
