About LIFE GAIA Sense
The objective of the LIFE GAIA Sense project, co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union, was to highlight the importance of technology and, consequently, smart farming in reducing the environmental footprint of agricultural production, through the promotion and dissemination of the innovative gaiasensesmart farming system, developed by NEUROPUBLIC.
Namely, the project has launched 18 demonstrators across Greece, Spain and Portugal, covering nine crops (olives, peaches, cotton, pistachio, potatoes, industrial tomatoes, almonds, kiwifruit, and vines) in various terrain and microclimatic conditions. At the same time, a specialized network of scientists and professionals was set up, in order to adapt smart farming models to the specific needs of each region and each crop, helping producers better manage their farms.
The coordination of the project was undertaken by NEUROPUBLIC in collaboration with GAIA EPICHEIREIN, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Meramvelos in Crete, the Agricultural Cooperative ASEPOP of Velventos in Kozani, the Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Portugal (CONFAGRI), and the wine cooperative Viña Costeira in Spain.
