A high profile informational visit on smart farming was organized on Thursday, July 11th, taking place at a farm and at the agricultural cooperative of Xanthi, in the context of the communication activities designed and implemented by GAIA EPICHEIREIN, and funded by the European Commission. Among the participants were the Deputy Regional Governor of Xanthi, Ms. Polyxeni Brika, GAIA EPICHEIREIN & NEUROPUBLIC, representatives of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Kavala and the Agricultural Cooperative of Xanthi, while the presentations were attended by local producers.
The participants had the opportunity to meet in depth the scientific, technological and operational dimensions of smart farming practices in kiwi production as well as to exchange opinions on the challenges and opportunities connected to the digital transformation of the sector. More specifically, the participants visited a kiwi farm to get to know more about the gaiasense smart farming system and the smart irrigational system which was installed, and to understand the digital solutions designed and developed by NEUROPUBLIC, GAIA EPICHEIREIN’s strategic partner from the IT sector.
Mr. George Papadimas, ΝEUROPUBLIC’s Commercial Director, Mr. Kostas Tsionis, ΝEUROPUBLIC’s Sales Manager for North Greece, Mr. Kostas Garoufas, producer – agronomist and Mr. George Kaliatsos, NEUROPUBLIC’s agronomist, were responsible for the extended presentation of both the gaiasense integrated smart farming system and the smart irrigation system, and they discussed their implementation in the field. The participants were informed about the contribution of smart farming in the kiwi cultivation as well as the financial, environmental and social benefits for the producers and the consumers.
Τhe participants visited then, the Agricultural Cooperative of Xanthi “The Union”, where detailed presentations on the digital transformation of agriculture took place, along with an interesting discussion. More specifically, the local administration representative Ms. Polyxeni Brika, Deputy Regional Governor of Xanthi, Mr. Nikos Tsinaridis, Director of the Agricultural Cooperative of Kavala and Mr. Kostas Chatziliadis, from the Agricultural Cooperative of Kavala, addressed the meeting. The digital transformation of agriculture was presented by Mr. George Papadimas, NEUROPUBLIC’s Commercial Director, and Mr. Ilias Papanikolaou, GAIA EPICHEIREIN’s Sales Manager for North Greece.
The specific activity was implemented in the context of the CAP4Food project.
