Young farmers & the use of financial tools | CAP4Youth Information Shot #5

According to a survey conducted in Greece among farmers up to the age of 45:

66.8% report that they have not made use of any funding programme under the Rural Development Programme (RDP), mainly due to insufficient information regarding participation procedures, as well as because they do not meet the required eligibility criteria.

At the same time, 30.5% have utilized RDP programmes, with Improvement Plans and the Young Farmers Scheme representing the vast majority of the sample:

  • Improvement Plans: 48.7%
  • Young Farmers: 38.8%
  • Producer Groups: 5.0%

Young farmers’ perspective

Young farmers believe that CAP financial instruments respond little to not at all to their needs.

They propose:

  • an immediate increase in funding levels, and
  • a reduction in administrative burden and bureaucracy.
